From a home race of Supersport World Championship at the Brno Masaryk Circuit the SMS Racing Team departs again with zero. Bad-luck series continued even before the home crowd, even though the course of the weekend had developed very promisingly. The Brno circuit witnessed a really tropical weather, which made it difficult to set the bikes for all the participants. Ondra, however, succeeded in training on Friday when the first qualifying ended with 11th place. Although he didn´t improve on Saturday, he stood on the starting grid on 14th position, the best so far in this season.
After the start he moved to 14th and 15th place respectively and gradually worked through during the race towards 11th position. Unfortunately, around two laps before the finish Danish competitor Harms' engine banged at the descent to the stadium and oil leaked frome the engine onto the track just in front of our driver. Logically, followed by a fall and an end to all hopes for a finish on the edge of the Top Ten. The race was stopped then and according to the FIM rules, the rider must within five minutes of posting a red flag get with the bike into the boxes, which of course was not possible in case of Ondra because of his high-speed crash and therefor he was not classified at his home race. After two technical defects in Misano and Aragon it was again a cold shower for the entire SMS Racing Team eventhough it performed well throughout the whole weekend.
Ondra Jezek:
"What can I say? It is simply outrageous misfortune. The start of the race, I succeeded. I held my 14th position. I tried to keep the three Marino-Ellison-Iannuzzo. The first two appointed went away, but I overtook the Italian in half of the race. Thanks to few falls, I got to 11 place. I have been able to keep Iannuzzi away from me and secure my position. In the penultimate lap when descending to the stadium I ran in the 200-kilometer speed on an oil spill. It was as if someone took my front wheel. I am glad that I escaped out of this unpleasant surprise without an injury, but another failed chance for the top ten is very frustrating for me. The whole weekend ran very well, the team worked great and a null result from the race is a huge disappointment for us."
